Solar load offloading means transferring a defined group of loads to a solar or hybrid supply while other loads remain connected to the grid or another source. It can be a practical response where full-property solar is unnecessary, unaffordable or constrained by roof area.
Choose the circuits deliberately
Typical candidates include lighting, routers, televisions, security, computers, refrigeration and selected sockets. Electric cookers, water heaters, large air-conditioners and heavy machinery may stay outside the solar-backed distribution unless specifically engineered.
Separate wiring is essential
A qualified electrician should identify circuits, confirm phases, create an essential-load board where appropriate and prevent unsafe back-feeding. Labels and a clear single-line diagram help occupants and technicians understand the arrangement.
Match solar production to operating hours
Daytime business loads can often consume solar energy as it is produced, reducing storage requirements. Overnight or outage loads require enough usable battery energy and a charging plan.
Plan behaviour and changeover
Occupants need to know which sockets are backed up, what not to connect and what happens when battery limits are reached. The system should fail predictably rather than invite improvised extension leads.
Power the important part well before attempting to power everything poorly.
